The Yukon Quest International Sled Dog Race has been run every February since 1984 across 1,000 miles/1,600 km of wilderness trail between Whitehorse, Yukon and Fairbanks, Alaska. The starting point switches between the two communities every other year. The race lasts 9 to 14 days depending on weather, trail conditions, and team speed. The shot below is taken from the Chena River about twenty mile east of Fairbanks. It was a bright, sunny, but cold (-20F) morning as twenty-six teams departed Fairbanks headed for Whitehorse.
