About this photo:
Summer solstice, the longest day of the year, was officially on Tuesday, June 20th this year. Fairbanks doesn’t quite get 24 hours of sunlight on the solstice, but we definitely get a midnight sun. Sunset was about 1:00am and sunrise is about 3:00am, giving close to a 22 hour day. In between it is a fairly bright civil twilight. This shot was taken looking west from Cleary Summit, about 20 miles northwest of town, at just about midnight, on June 20th. A beautiful night. Just enough of a breeze to keep the mosquitoes at bay.
Settings and processing:
Canon 5DIII, Canon 16-35mm @16mm, 1/20 sec, f/18, iso 100, 3 exp +/- 2, Photomatix, Lightroom.
