About this photo:
Alaska was in position for prime viewing of Wednesday morning’s Super Blue Blood Moon and Lunar Eclipse. With clear skies in the interior we were witness to all phases of the eclipse as it moved through totality. If that wasn’t enough, we were also witness to a little show of aurora at the same time. This week’s photo shows the moon during totality at about 4:30am on Jan. 31, 2018 and aurora as it swept a bit into the southwest sky. This is a composite in that I replaced an over exposed moon (due to longer shutter speeds to capture the aurora) with a more correctly exposed moon.
Settings and processing:
Canon 5DIII, Canon 16-35mm @16mm, f/2.8, 13 sec, iso 100, Photoshop, Lightroom.
